In-person: classroom and shop

Duration

8 hours (4 hours classroom + 4 hours shop)

High-Pressure Common Rail: Engine Start to Full Load

John Deere 4045 · Level 34 ECU · 4 hours classroom, 4 hours hands-on shop

The full system animation at full load: 2,200 rpm, rail near 23,000 psi, with live ECU data.

About the class

A full-day course for diesel technicians on the high-pressure common rail fuel system. The morning is classroom theory built around a five-minute animation that follows fuel from key ON to full load, with cutaways of every major component and live ECU data. The afternoon moves to the shop, where technicians test the same circuits on a running 4045 - pressures, sensor circuits, SCV live data and high-pressure leakage - and finish with a fault-finding challenge.

What technicians will be able to do

  1. Trace fuel through the low-pressure, high-pressure and return circuits and name every component.
  2. Explain how the ECU controls rail pressure through the suction control valve.
  3. Describe what happens inside an injector during one injection.
  4. Test the rail pressure, LP pressure and NTC fuel temperature sensor circuits on the engine.
  5. Read rail pressure and SCV duty on the service tool and judge whether they are right.
  6. Diagnose low rail pressure in the right order: supply, HP leakage, pump.

Lunch 12:00 - 12:30

Afternoon - shop - 4 hours

Technicians work in pairs and rotate through four stations on a running JD 4045, recording readings on a worksheet and comparing them with spec.
